Vitamins for fertility...What you need to know

Fertility is an incredibly precious commodity, but it is one that eluding many modern couples. Many are turning to IVF but, mother nature has created its products that can bring benefits to both men and women in their bid for parenthood.

Around one in six couples are now estimated to be experiencing fertility problems.

Each year around 30,000 women seek fertility treatment by IVF, at the cost of £2000-£3000 per cycle.

If they are lucky, a couple of these treatments will be NHS funded, but this is depending on the postcode lottery. In some areas, the cut-off age is as low as 32, by which time many women may not have yet realised that they have fertility problems.

IVF is not without its risk, with the possibility of multiple births and around 50% of all twins are now said to be born as the result of IVF treatment. There is also a double risk of birth defects in children conceived through IVF.

The reason for infertility problems includes delaying childbirth, environmental factors and health problems related reproduction.

Author of natural solutions to infertility, Marilyn Glanville, states that sperm count has dropped in the last 10 years, while sperm abnormalities are increasing. one in four women miscarry, says Glanville, and of a couple who seek medical help, 30 per cent are told they have unexplained infertility, for which no treatment is possible. More and more women are delaying childbirth until their 30s and 40s, by which time fertility can decline. The problem that older women experience fall mainly into two areas, says Francesca Banish co-author of healthy parents, better babies.

Many studies are now showing that age is not necessarily the only or even sometimes the primary factor in an increased level of risk. Other factors which also appears to influence miscarriage rates and defects risks are the higher and longer-term level of exposure to toxic conditions and substance, such as chemicals, radiation and heavy metals, which can occur in longer life. These are toxic to egg, sperm and embryo and also interfere with nutritional status- and nutrients are the building blocks for a healthy baby. So, if we detoxify and improve the nutritional status, we find that the risk is very significantly reduced even for mothers in theirs early to mid-40s.

Other factors that contributed to the rising rate of infertility include urinary infections, some of which are not the main cases we see where urinary infection can harm fertility are as chlamydia and urea plasma.
